Diagnosis: Nothing’s wrong with you

In Love & Life on July 5, 2009 at 3:19 am

I had a visit to the doctor the other day and I told her that I had been experiencing a lack of energy and frequent headaches.  So here comes the questions – do you drink caffeine? do you do this? do you that that?  I answered all of the questions very honestly.  Diagnosis:  Well nothing is wrong is with me, but she suggested that I could lay off the caffeine and maybe ween myself off of it gradually.  She also suggested that I lose 60 lbs – wow!!!  I loved her honesty.  I believe this was the very first doctor that ever gave me a specific number of weight that I needed to lose.  Lastly, she told me to exercise.

I can do this I know I can.  My husband and I had just talked about this a few days before I went in for my appointment.  I already know my problem areas – being lazy, loving sweets and coca- cola.  Everyday I believe that I have at least two cokes (empty calories) and a pack of hot tamales candy.  Good thing for me that Wal-mart has stopped selling hot tamale candy in the big bag.  they only sell the little boxes now and i think that it’s a waste of money.

I took it easy this weekend and I am going to make suttle changes.  However, the coke is hard because I had two today, but no hot tamales – yeah!!!  My goal is to lose 60 pounds in a year because I honestly don’t think that my doctor believes that I will do it.   Wish me well and pray for me as I start my weight loss journey.

My Dream

In Love & Life on May 7, 2009 at 10:10 pm

I had a dream last night that while I was at work, I had a hard time breathing and no one could help me. Well as soon as my alarm went off I could breathe again. Scary, huh!!! And I don’t know whether or not it was real.

Couples Outing 1st QTR – 2009

In Love & Life, Uncategorized on February 19, 2009 at 3:32 pm

This year, my couple friends (aka The Crew), decided that each couple would plan an outing throughout the year. My hubby and I ended up with 1st Quarter and we chose to go to the AJC Car Show. We have gone to this show at least twice and we had so much fun taking pictures and just dreaming about driving various cars. We thought that our friends would have a blast doing the same. I like to make a big deal out of things, so I plan to make my own invitations and magazine paper envelopes. I also found some vintage car stamps and I am so excited. The invites are collage photos that I purchased for 9 cents at www.snapfish.com (Thanks to www.2000dollarwedding.com because that is where I got the idea). I used pics from that took at the 2007 show and created a collage from that. All of the details will be placed on cardstock or something. I haven’t quite figured that part out yet.

Our 6-Month Wedding Date

In Love & Life, Uncategorized on December 11, 2008 at 1:44 am

My DH & I made it to 6 months.  Yea!!!!  We have been through so much in our first few months of marriage.  The major thing was the job loss but God has blessed us so much – in ways that we could not even imagine.  Thankfully my hubby has been working for a couple of months now.

So I believe that I had an over the top expectation for our date.  I wanted a candlelight dinner and wanted to exchange a small gift or something, but it didn’t work out like that.  Neither did I communicate any of that to my husband.  (LOL)  Nevertheless, we still had an awesome day.  My DH made us breakfast and we chilled out around the house.  Then we left to finish our Christmas shopping and grab a bite to eat.

That night I felt like we hit every store in Buckhead.  We  did finish our Christmas shopping though.  We wanted Asian Cusuine so we went to Mo Mo Ya.  The dinner was good and very filling and we were thoroughly entertained by the hibachi chef.

Later that night, we  were on the way home and  someway somehow we had a slight disagreement which made for an abnormal night of little conversation.  In the midst of that, we still managed to decorate our Christmas tree and we even listened to holiday music.  Maybe we were secretly hoping that would lighten the mood.  I don’t think it worked though.

I ended up being upstairs and he was downstairs wrapping gifts. So that , unfortunately, is how our night ended… with very little convo between us. I don’t even know why we were upset.  I guess it was just one of those things.

“Our First Christmas” Ornament

In Love & Life on December 4, 2008 at 1:59 pm

While my husband and I were Christmas shopping, we ran across this cart in the mall that sold ornaments.  For the past few weeks, I have been looking for a unique “Our First Christmas” ornament and I found it.  Actually you can pick any ornament and put anything you want on it. We had our ornament personalized and listed our names on it as well as “Our First Christmas ‘08.”  I love it.  It was cheaper that the other ornaments that I saw in the major department stores and we were able to customize it.  The whole thing was $11.99.  This is will make a great personal gift for just about anyone on your list. Atlantans, you can check this out in Lenox Mall just above California Pizza Kitchen.

We Met on the Radio

Here is our story as told to the Bert Show on Q100 Atlanta…

Dear Bert Show ,

My name is A-Kay and I love love love the Bert Show. I have great story that I wanted to share with you all. Back in August 2005 you did a segment called “The Do Date List.”  On the morning that you showcased your first do-dater, I just so happened to be in my car listening.  As Bert would say, it was destiny that I was in the car at that time because I went to work late that day due to a volunteer project.  So I am riding along and as this first guy is being described I liked everything that I heard.  Then I hear that he had attended Morehouse College and I  was really excited.  At that point I was so eager to get to work so that I could see his picture on the Q100 website.  I got to work and looked at his photo and profile and I thought “not bad.”  I went home and sent him a cute little email describing myself with my picture attached and waited to see if he would respond. Well the next day he did respond and we used email as our main form of communication for a couple of weeks.  Then we exchanged numbers and after about a month we decided to go on our first date.

Admittedly, sparks did not fly on that first date, but we continued to get to know each other and communicated via email and phone for about 3 months before we went on our second date.  On our second date, not only did sparks fly, but at that point I knew that he was the man for me. The Do Date List was my destiny fulfilled.  My sweetheart is very spontaneous and one day we were talking about our future and getting married. So on a whim, he got down on his knee and proposed to me.   We started making wedding plans it became very overwhelming and stressful for the both of us. As we were planning, we realized that his lease would be up soon and in order to save money for the wedding we tossed around the idea of moving in together.  Because of our beliefs in order to move in together we would need to get married.  So we have enrolled in a premarriage workshop and plan to have a private wedding in the last week of this month.   After we save a little money, we hope to do something to celebrate with our families and friends.

I just wanted to take the time to say thank you for presenting “The Do Date List” to Atlanta.  Because of that very segment, I am now getting ready to marry a wonderful man.

Planning for our 6 month wedding date

In Love & Life on November 18, 2008 at 5:57 pm

My hubby and I are quickly approaching our 6 month wedding mark and we are so excited.  So many things have happened during that time and we need to take the time to celebrate.  The date falls on a Saturday and that makes this so special because we will have weekend time.  We tossed around a few ideas of things to do, but have not made a final decision.  We just plan to have a nice dinner and maybe exchange a small gift.

No Weapon Formed Against Me Shall Prosper

In Love & Life on August 11, 2008 at 2:26 pm

Last week when I was at work, I got a call from my husband.  He says, “Guess who is going home permanently??” I tried to guess every name but his because I could not fathom the fact that my man had lost his job.  Well it was true – he had been wrongly accused and was ordered to clean his desk and hit the road.  A ton of emotions hit me at one time, but mainly I wanted to cry.  I also wanted to go home and see about him.  But at that moment, I didn’t know what to do.

I started thinking about how bills have to be paid and to keep it real, there is no money in savings.  My husband’s car stopped working, we had just started trying to save for a honeymoon since we didn’t do one just after we married, my birthday was coming up.  How could satan try to destroy us like this?

Lately I have been reading my Bible a lot and really trying to stay in the Word of God.  I know that is the only thing sustaining and keeping me together.  The Word says in Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against me shall prosper…” so I have to know that whatever the devil tries to throw at us will not stand.

Fred Hammond sings a song “No Weapon” that will definitely get you through this temporary state. Note the operative word temporary because you will not be here for long.

The lyrics say: No weapon formed against me shall prosper – It wont work – God will do what He said would do -He will stand by His Word – He will come through.

That is such a powerful word.  You will have to look at the video clip to get the rest of the lyrics, but keep the faith.  And having faith is believing in what you can not see.  I know that this is easier said than done.  Trust me!! But I have to keep the faith and keep believing that God’s Word works for me.
