My weekend was pretty eventful. On Friday, I attended a baby shower – well actually I helped coordinate it. I was in charge of the games. Since it was a work shower, I wanted to keep things short and sweet. So we did “10 Questions for the Mommy to Be” and “Baby Shower Left Right”. The games were so much fun and the food was amazing. The menu included cranberry chicken, potatoes, green beans, sweet potato souffle and dinner rolls.
Later that evening I went shopping for a gift for my girls. We were having a girls night out and it might be one of the last before the babies arrive so I wanted to get the mommies-to-be a small gift. I also wanted to make sure that the gift had nothing to do with babies. I got everyone a copy of the Sex & The City movie and in addition the mommies got cute little wallet/clutches. I was quite proud of my selections. I hope they liked it.
I have to preface this statement by saying that my husband is so wonderful. Ok so we got a brand new microwave and they delivered it at 7am on Saturday morning. My hubs decided that he would get up early and handle everything. That was soooo great for me because I got to sleep in. I finally woke up around 9-ish and had to find music for my choir. After a few phone calls I found what I was looking for and picked up the music and off to choir rehearsal.
Choir Rehearsal started off a little awkard as there was only one other person in attendance besides me – that was my mom. About 10 minutes later, another person showed. By the way, we have a very small choir. Then about 20 minutes into rehearsal I get a call from two other members telling me that they wouldn’t make it. The members showed up very late and authored up unnecessary confusion at the end of my rehearsal and things just ended all wrong.
I went shopping, then I went to another baby shower. It was cool. I must say the Mommy to Be looked a little bored because she wasnt included in the games. But the games were different and they were not like ordinary baby shower games. I hope that she got all that she wanted and needed.

I have to tell you that I really look forward to date night with my husband. We try to make it a point to have a date night every weekend. We may go to a restaurant, a movie, or something just to have fun.
Also, it’s important to plan getaways. We’ve tried to plan at least three a year. This year we did small trips and they were all great. I have to say that my favorite was a hidden gem that I found in Hoover, AL. It’s the Renaissance Ross Bridge Resort and it is amazing. It’s so secluded and it makes for the perfect trip. Another fave is Chateau Elan in Braselton, GA. I believe that this is wedding central, but I can see why. The place is gorgeous.
Why should you date your spouse? It’s so romantic and it gives you something to look forward to. If you can’t get away or out of the house, try cooking a meal together. You could even do a in-home picnic. Now I love those – in the dead of the winter. Snuggle in front of the fireplace with appetizers like shrimp, sushi, ham & cheese tray, etc. This could be really fun.
Tap into your creative side and plan something fun and romantic for your spouse.
What things do you do for your hubby/wife dates????

Tags: rookie moms, best baby shower gifts, nursing essentials

I have to be honest, when one of my friends has a major event, I do serious research on the gifts that I plan to give. I don’t know why i do it, but I do. So, the site that I frequent most for registry tips is Rookie Moms. I believe that they have the most comprehensive list available for moms-to-be.
The best gifts in my opinion, are to give them what they need. They have to have a car seat and stroller so if that’s in the budget, then go for that. One of the other must haves is the breast pump and let me tell you, those things are expensive.
I am going to link over to Rookie Moms and my advice is to look at the essentials and nice to have items on their list and compare it the registry list that you have. There are tons of ways to be creative with gifts. For instance, if you know the new mom will breast feed, look into getting her a basket full of nursing essentials. The items could include nipple cream, nursing cover, nursing pads, nursing pillow/boppy, etc.
I still haven’t made my final decision on what I am getting for my friends, but I’ll be sure to let you know.

Tags: dealing with friends

I have heard too many stories in the past couple of days about friends not really being friends.
- Friends follow through – I understand that things happen, but don’t promise a friend to treat them and their spouse on their anniversary and not follow through.
- Don’t get mad if you invite a close friend to stay over and they go in your room to get lotion. So what you’re not there and it’s your lotion. That’s your friend and you should trust them. If there is no trust, then don’t be friends.
- If you have pregnant friends, this is probably the time that they need you the most. Don’t neglect your pregnant friends. Call them, support them, take them out and just be a good friend.

Tags: baby showers

There must have been something in the water in Georgia earlier this year because there are so many people are having babies. I have invites for three different baby showers this month.
Sidebar: I just remembered that I was invited to another baby shower in November.
The first one is for a co-worker and I have no idea what to get her. The other two are for close friends and I would like to spend a bit more on them, but I still don’t know what I will be purchasing.
I am rather excited about my friend’s babies. One is having a girl and the other is having a boy. I have really enjoyed shopping for baby clothes. It was so much fun. Now, the hubs and I are not getting ready for a baby, but it was fun shopping. I even got him to come along with me a time or two. BTW, he hated Baby Gap in Lenox. LOL

Tags: 12 days of Christmas gift ideas

I decided to do the 12 Days of Christmas for the Hubs starting today. I am soooooo excited because I think that this will make him smile and I like to see my hubby smile. This is just a sweet and cute little thing to do to let him know that I appreciate him. Ladies, you know that we have to bring back those little romantic things that we used to do.
If you plan to do this for your husband, there are plenty of sites that you can use to help you out, but all of the gifts were focused around women. So my piece of advice is just to be as creative as you can. The gifts that my husband will get really don’t have anything to do with the 12 Days of Christmas theme, but I don’t think that he cares. It’s the thought that counts.
- One Pack of Cushy Socks
- Two things to shave with (Shave Soap & Shave Oil)
- It’s Red, It’s Green, It’s a candy cane full of M&Ms
- Four layer slice of cheesecake (Red Velvet Cheesecake)
- Five golden rings ( A can of pineapple slices)
- Six pairs of dress socks
- A small box of chocolate Whoppers
- Eight ounces of Jalepeno Cheetos
- Nine Fruit Roll-ups

I had a visit to the doctor the other day and I told her that I had been experiencing a lack of energy and frequent headaches. So here comes the questions – do you drink caffeine? do you do this? do you that that? I answered all of the questions very honestly. Diagnosis: Well nothing is wrong is with me, but she suggested that I could lay off the caffeine and maybe ween myself off of it gradually. She also suggested that I lose 60 lbs – wow!!! I loved her honesty. I believe this was the very first doctor that ever gave me a specific number of weight that I needed to lose. Lastly, she told me to exercise.
I can do this I know I can. My husband and I had just talked about this a few days before I went in for my appointment. I already know my problem areas – being lazy, loving sweets and coca- cola. Everyday I believe that I have at least two cokes (empty calories) and a pack of hot tamales candy. Good thing for me that Wal-mart has stopped selling hot tamale candy in the big bag. they only sell the little boxes now and i think that it’s a waste of money.
I took it easy this weekend and I am going to make suttle changes. However, the coke is hard because I had two today, but no hot tamales – yeah!!! My goal is to lose 60 pounds in a year because I honestly don’t think that my doctor believes that I will do it. Wish me well and pray for me as I start my weight loss journey.

I had a dream last night that while I was at work, I had a hard time breathing and no one could help me. Well as soon as my alarm went off I could breathe again. Scary, huh!!! And I don’t know whether or not it was real.

So this Sunday my husband and I decided to host a mother’s day dinner at our home. I had a lot of trouble figuring out what to cook because I don’t have that many dishes outside of spaghetti that cook very well. Both my mom and mother-in-law love soul food or southern food. So here’s my menu for Mother’s Day:
Honey Baked Ham
Smoked Turkey
Mac N Cheese
Green Bean Cass
Skillet Corn
Dinner Rolls
Strawberry Short Cake
At first I was not looking forward to this dinner because I didn’t have a menu that I was comfortable with, but now I am definitely okay with it.

Tags: AJC Car Show, couple friends, going out, hanging out with other couples
This year, my couple friends (aka The Crew), decided that each couple would plan an outing throughout the year. My hubby and I ended up with 1st Quarter and we chose to go to the AJC Car Show. We have gone to this show at least twice and we had so much fun taking pictures and just dreaming about driving various cars. We thought that our friends would have a blast doing the same. I like to make a big deal out of things, so I plan to make my own invitations and magazine paper envelopes. I also found some vintage car stamps and I am so excited. The invites are collage photos that I purchased for 9 cents at www.snapfish.com (Thanks to www.2000dollarwedding.com because that is where I got the idea). I used pics from that took at the 2007 show and created a collage from that. All of the details will be placed on cardstock or something. I haven’t quite figured that part out yet.
